Washington County Master Gardeners February Presentation

February 8 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Washington County Master Gardeners would like to invite you to our February Zoom presentation.

It will be held Thursday February 8, at 6:00PM.

Our guest speaker is Dr Karen Oberhauser, recently retired director of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum and her topic is Monarch Conservation in a Changing World

Dr Oberhauser will share results from 25 years of scientific observation from the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project.  The Monarch Larva Monitoring Project is a Monarch Joint Venture and University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum citizen science project to track monarch eggs, larvae, and milkweed throughout North America.

Dr. Oberhauser will help us see how we can address Monarch and other insect conservation in our own gardens and beyond.  She describes her research field, conservation biology, as the science of hope. “The challenges we face as we work to preserve biodiversity are steep, but our collective concern for monarchs and, by extension, the thousands of species with which they share habitats can provide a glimmer of hope in a complicated world.”

You can check out the website for the project here:  Monarch Larva Monitoring Project • Tracking Monarch Eggs, Larvae, &… (mlmp.org)
